Season 7 (1995-1996) Season 9 (1997-1998)

America's Funniest Home Videos Season 8 aired from September 22, 1996 to May 18, 1997. Gary Owens became the permanent announcer since Ernie Anderson had health problems in 1995. On January 12, 1997, "The Funny Things You Do" was re-recorded in a modern style, featuring Peter Hix and Terry Wood. The set changed again on February 2, 1997, the carpet was gray, the neighborhood skyline was black, the stars were white, and lightened up trees were added to the backstage area. In episodes 9 to 23, the narration for Bob Saget's introduction is a reused audio clip originally recorded for the fourth season, done by original announcer, Ernie Anderson. This was also Bob Saget's final season on the show as the host before being replaced by Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang the following season.

Trivia[]

  • In episode 19, a special tribute to Ernie Anderson was shown in form of a clip of Season 3 Episode 9 where he makes his first and only on-screen appearance, then a card is shown saying:
    Ernie anderson card

"Ernie Anderson
November 12, 1923 - February 6, 1997"
as he had passed away days before the episode aired.

  • This is the last season until Season 15 to have three $100,000 shows. There are only two in the next season.
  • To date, "Last Time Macarena Boy" from episode 11 is the only nominee shown in both a music montage and its episode.
  • As a result of new episodes being aired back-to-back, this season has the highest number of episodes, 30, to date.
  • This season and Season 2 have the highest number of nominated videos submitted by Canadians, 5, in the Saget era.
  • "Model Rocket Fly-By," the first-place winning video in episode 21, is labeled as a set-up video in the Home Video Licensing library.[1]
  • In episode 27, only an outtake of "Upside Down Potato Guys" is shown. The final cut was also submitted, but never shown.[2]
  • The original broadcast of episode 29 featuring 3D gags for 3D week never aired again, instead being replaced with a re-edit that removes all 3D related parts and replaces them with normal segments with Bob. It is unknown when that version premiered, but the earliest known date is November of 1997. This re-edit was seen in syndication.
  • During the Saget era, videos from submitters from the following states/provinces/federal district were not nominated: Manitoba, New Brunswick, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Washington, DC, and Wyoming. A video with a submitter from Prince Edward Island has yet to be nominated in the show.
